The one that connected with me the most is paywalls.
I am only just getting started on here, but I don’t plan to use paywalls, and if I ever do it would be sparingly.
I want people to read my writing. I see a lot of posts that are paid only, and I can’t even see any of there posts at all. I’m not willing to pay for a subscription when I don’t even know what their writing is about, the quality of content, the style, if their posts will connect with me.
They may be generating money, but I’m not sure how sustainable that is if they aren’t getting new subscribers.
I’ve seen some people do half paid and half free. I guess this is a good compromise. I saw one author who was turned down by a publisher, and now she is posting new chapters every week for her subscribers. I thought this was a great method, and she posts enough of her writing that I am intrigued and may pay. When you consider how much a book costs, it’s not a bad deal, and I could still support her work.
Hi, Luna!! I agree with you! I was a freelance writer before getting more serious with Substack, and now I’m currently writing paid posts as well! I’m also doing half paid and half free. Paid posts on Wednesdays and Free posts on Sundays. The free posts on Sunday are for people to know me and my writing, to connect with me. I always think about building a bond before having an ‘audience’, that’s something that I’ve always talked about. Thank you so much for your comment! And i also agree, you totally need to watch this movie! This post will be way funnier when you catch the references lol!
Emily!!! Not even paying attention to anyone else when I have such a sweet comment on my post! Sooo much love to you right back! I hope you’re having the best day ever. <3
